Put Your Guard Up

Use Your Shield!

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him …” — Proverbs 30:5-6, NKJV

If you see someone is about to hit you, your reaction is to “Put Your Guard Up”. You want to defend yourself in the best way possible.

Our scripture today reminds us that in our spiritual battles, we have a guard (shield) that we can “Put Up” to better defend us in the battle. Our guard or as the Bible refers to it, our shield, is the Word of God.

God encourages us to read it, study it, memorize it, meditate on it, and hide it in our heart so we can use it for those times.

Our challenge is to do that, as God encouraged us to do. We sometimes are too busy for the preparation of the battle and then it’s too late to prepare when the battle has already overtaken us. What a shame!

We could have such help and such wisdom already in our mind and heart if we were just to take a few minutes every day to prepare for the battle that is sure to come.

Be encouraged today in knowing that you have a great shield that you can put up against the “fiery darts of the wicked one”.

If it’s discouragement, use your shield. If it’s temptation, use your shield. If it’s doubt, use your shield. If it’s bitterness, use your shield. If it’s envy, use your shield. If it’s hatred, use your shield. If it’s frustration, use your shield. If it’s a lie about you, use your shield. If it’s gossip about you, use your shield. If it’s the devil, use your shield!

Know your shield! Study your shield! Use your shield!
