The Treasures That Last

“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:20-21, NKJV

Not very many people are satisfied with their earthly riches. Often the richer the man the greater the poverty.

Somebody has said that getting riches brings care; keeping them brings trouble; abusing them brings guilt; and losing them brings sorrow.

It is a great mistake to make so much of riches as we do. But there are some riches that we cannot praise too much: that never pass away. Those are the treasures laid up in heaven.

Our scripture for today tells us that where our treasure is, that will be where our heart is. We might ask ourselves with this verse; where is our heart?

Is our heart tied up in the earthly possessions we have gathered around us? Is that what we love more than family, more than God, more than how we might be able to serve God, more than what we can do for others, more than church?

Whatever we call a treasure in our life will be where our heart truly is. The treasures that will last are those that are not earthly but spiritual and that are stored up for us and waiting on us in heaven.
