A Worthy Warning

“One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” Proverbs 28:9, NKJV

Think of that. It might be shocking to some of us to think that our prayers are an abomination to God, yet if we are living in known sin; this is what God’s Word says about our prayers.

If we are not willing to turn form sin and obey God’s law, we have no right to expect that He will answer our prayers. Unconfessed sin is unforgiven sin, and unforgiven sin affects our prayers that we voice to God.

You cannot find a case in the Bible where a man has been honest in dealing with sin, but God has been honest with him and blessed him. The prayer of the humble and the contrite heart is a delight to God.

We, as Christians, should never assume that because of the grace that God has extended to us personally that we have the right to abuse that grace and continue to live in sin and expect that God will continue to bless us.

In Hebrews, we are told that the Word of God is a two-edged sword. Within its pages are words of love, compassion, grace and forgiveness. Also within its pages are words of warning.

We should pay close attention to each and all of them.
